College of Science

College of Science of University of Tehran is one of the oldest Institution for higher education in Iran. It was established in 1934 under the name of '' Faculty of Science''. Presently, it is the largest Institution among all the faculties in Iranian universities. College of science runs, B.Sc., M.Sc, and Ph.D. programs in its Five Schools (School of Biology, School of Chemistry, School of Physics and School of Mathematics

 
, Statistics and Computer Science) and the Department of Biotechnology. The main building of the College is located at the main campus of the University of Tehran. School of physics is located at the end of Kargar Shomali St. Department of Biotechnology is at No.2 shafiee   Street in Ghods Avenue. There are about 2600 students and 130 teaching and Research staffs working in the college. The administrative body of the college consists of a dean and four associate deans: Associate Dean for  Research, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Graduate studies, and Associate Dean for Administration and Finance, and Associate Dean for student affairs the college has a scientific journal named Journal of  Science of the University of Tehran. The publication of the journal dates back to 1969. The   journal is published seasonally. College of Science has five computer centers established in 1995. They give services to the college members and students. The biggest Computer Centre which is located at the main campus, has several servers which are connected to the net lanes which in turn, are hooked up to University Net, and finally to the global internet.

 

The college has a main Library which consists of various section such as journal depository, chemical Abstract, Reference books, book depository, and several reading and studying halls. In addition to the main library, two other
 
libraries are available in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science and the School of Physics. The Central Herbarium of the University of Tehran is located at the third floor of the main building,  large  amounts of valuable plant specimens mainly from Iran are deposited in the museum, which are the subjects of detailed? Studies by the Herbarium staffs and their postgraduate students . There are two other museums in the college: Museum of Zoology located at the School and Museum of  Rocks and Minerals located at the School of Geology.
